My weapons balance suggestion threads trend continues with... G11
G11 is a skill 100 assault rifle.
It has 8 maximum range, slightly less damage than SIG but it uses 4 AP to shoot. like all assault rifles, it's damage becomes lower as the shooting range is lower(from range 4 it will shoot extremely low damage).
it also has 65% to hit with each shot at skill 100.
a built in knife can be purchesed to it, which is very powerful.
all in all, it sounds like a nice weapon right? high damage from close, melee attachment... well, now that it's been with us for a while, and i've seen it in action(which has stopped quickly as people felt the disadvantages i'm going to write down soon), i'll talk about what's wrong with it, and why doesn't it work.
there are many issues:
1. This weapon is designed to be a secondary weapon to aug. It's idea is to give a more powerful alternative to AUG's grenade laucher.
this weapon is a complete failure to do that.
comparison with aug's grenade laucher:
aug grenade launcher might have less damage, but it has almost 100% to hit if you're skilled with the use of grenade launchers(i might make a grenade launcher guide which will prevent people from blowing themselves up in the future :) ), it can hit units behind cover, and of course it can hit multiple units. and, OF COURSE, it has much more range. launcher has 9 max range, which makes it at least 10 in reality, and with about 50% luck 11 range.
so even if you do have G11 in your inventory, you're much more likely to use aug's launcher in most situations, as it's much more vesatile.
of course, let's not forget about that 65% to hit with g11. it's only good from range 8(any other lower range and the damage suffers), you will almost ALWAYS scratch 1 out of 3.
now let's talk about the knife.
of course, together with melee skill, the knife has great damage. but, and it's a big but, is the knife really better than hammer? sure, hammer gives slightly less damage, but it also gives 25% stun each hit. i'd rather have a unit with 80 more hp but with 75(or 66 if it has armor resistance) stun.
and now, the most most critical disadvantage:
Why is a next tier, skill 100 Assault rifle, even supposed to be a secondary weapon?
this puts assault rifles at a HUGE disadvantage against machine guns/snipers/rocket launchers) at level 40+, as they dont have a next tier weapon to improve to, and will have to wait for level 50, for the 120 skill assault rifle.
in my conclusion, i'd say as aug already has a medium range grenade launcher attachment, it already has PLENTY to offer in medium range. a 100 skill weapon just to replace that attachment makes assault rifles a very questionable choice at level 40.
in my opinion, if G11 will continue be a secondary weapon, it must be changed to really become a better choice than grenade launcher(make range 8-4 constant max damage, make chance to hit higher than 65%)
and should it continue being a secondary weapon, another skill 100 weapon should be opened! which will be an improvement over aug.
should it change from a secondary to a primary weapon, of course G11 will have to be changed completely.
i dont know if it was suggested earlier, but i think it would be a great idea to make different weapons of the same skill which will add diversity to the game.
